First day of school – handshaking all around - Peoriatimes.com: Feature Stories

Great Article! I love what Capturing Kids' Hearts training can do for not only the staff but also the students. They're the reason why we do what we do!

First day of school – handshaking all around - Peoriatimes.com: Feature Stories: It starts with a handshake. Seventh-graders were greeted at the door to their classroom by their teacher, Ms. Reisenbigler. She teaches reading reading and writing. But her first lesson on the first day of school at Peoria Elementary School was a handshake greeting to each student assigned to her class.

Reisenbigler is just one teacher at PES who is now teaching under a new program called “Capturing Kids’ Hearts.

“It’s phenomenal,” she said. “The kids are excited; we’re excited.”

The excitement is a result of a three-day lesson in what PES principal Phil Stanfield calls “a philosophy, not a classroom management plan, not a discipline plan, just building relationships with kids and kids developing relationships with adults.”

This past year, the Peoria Unified School District invited Flip Flippen @flipflippen, a psychotherapist with The Flippen Group @flippengroup, to present his program.

In Flippen’s words, “If you have a child’s heart, you have his head.”

Every PES teacher is now...

THE FLIP SIDE BY FLIP FLIPPEN

Great Book! The Flip Side, "Break Free of the Behaviors That Hold You Back" is one of my favorite books. I'm on my 5th time reading it. This book has helped me identify my behavioral constraints and I have built a Traction Plan to help me break and overcome my constraints.
Not only has this book helped me at work but it has also helped me at home to communicate better with my wife and 3 children and build deeper relationships with them.

I recommend this book to everyone!

TOP 5 MUST DO's FOR CENTRAL OFFICE ORGANIZATION

The leaders of an organization are responsible for translating vision to results. They must align the thinking and actions of others toward common expectations and goals, without false starts or missteps.

5 MUST DO's:

  1. Understand how your systems and structure affect individual and group performance
  2. Recognize and overcome system constraints
  3. Facilitate a rigorous and effective strategic-planning process
  4. Set priorities and effectively focus organizational resources (No more than 2 or 3 top priorities)
  5. Apply an appropriate behavioral model to move an organization from good to great
Leaders need to coordinate critical systemic elements of their organization - mission, core principles, vision, capacity for change, alignment, accountability, and internal communication - to reach optimal results and staff performance.
